Our Story

Since the beginning, the Lentera Anak choose to focus on taking part in preventive efforts, by developing study programs, policy advocacy and pro-child campaigns, and partnering with various parties such as central and regional governments, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, educational institutions, mass media, the private sector, and other communities.

Lentera Anak actively facilitates young people to build their critical awareness of smoking issues, as well as providing space to speak out and play a role in policy advocacy to deliver strong messages to policymakers and the wider community. Because we believe that young people play a key role in breaking the chain of cigarette consumption and de-normalizing the cigarette industry by voicing their problems in their own way. Furthermore, Lantern Anak expands its contribution to various issues that are still a problem among children and young people. In 2022, Lentera Anak will continue to carry out various activities related to tobacco control, youth health, awareness of waste management, and nutrition awareness for adolescents.

Lentera Anak Foundation is an independent organization that seeks to promote and defend children's rights in Indonesia to encourage the creation of a child-friendly democratic country through education, advocacy, empowerment of children, youth and society as well as studies and research. Lentera Anak was founded in Jakarta on November 20, 2012 by Lisda Sundari, a child protection activist who previously worked for the National Commission for Child Protection (KOMNAS-PA).
The background of the establishment of Lentera Anak was the concern of the foundation's founder over the rampant cases of violations of children's rights that were exposed by the mass media without being able to change any conditions and policies that could protect children. From this condition, the idea was born that a critical intervention approach was not enough to reduce the intensity and quality of violations against children's rights, so it was necessary to expand earlier intervention efforts, namely preventive, involving the government, community, and family. Preventive efforts are believed to further reduce cases of violation of children's rights and victims.
